Brighton Home Health & Hospice was founded in 2012 with a vision to provide the most clinically advanced and compassionate care in the industry. Since that time the Brighton team has served over 2,000 patients and earned the reputation of being a premier home health and hospice company along the Wasatch Front.
In October 2018 Bristol Hospice acquired Brighton Utah. Joining forces between Bristol and Brighton makes Bristol the largest hospice provider in Utah and will allow patients and families access to more resources, including home health. Board Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Medical Director
What is Board Certification (American Board of Internal Medicine)? — Board certification is a meaningful indicator that a doctor has the knowledge, experience and skills necessary to provide high-quality patient care. Most doctors are certified in their specialty, such Internal Medicine or General Surgery. However, certification in Hospice and Palliative Care is an additional level of training, experience, and accreditation. Only about 1 in 10 hospice doctors in Utah is board certified in the subspecialty of Hospice and Palliative Care.
CNAs available up to 7 days per week
Does every hospice company provide a CNA 7 days per week? — No, the industry standard for CNA support is 2-3 visits per week. Bristol CNAs visit daily and are trained to be the eyes and ears of our RN case managers. Daily visits when needed support patient dignity and enable the nurse case manager to stay on top of pain management through immediate notification of any change in condition.
Minimum of twice a week nursing visits
What is the industry standard for hospice nursing visits? — Medicare guidelines require an RN case manager visit every 14 days. Industry standard is typically one nurse visit per week. Bristol schedules nursing visits at a minimum of two visits per week and more when necessary to ensure the comfort of our patients.
Separate On-call Team to address after-hour/weekend needs
How is this unique and beneficial? — Bristol patients receive an after-hours/weekend hot-line that rings directly to the cell phone of an on-call nurse. When after-hours needs/questions arise, patients and their families have a direct line to a care-giver who is prepared and waiting to respond. Common industry standards include using a triage answering service to field weekend calls or to have nurses who have already worked a full day take turns providing after-hours support.
Volunteer Program that exceeds Medicare Guidelines
What are the Medicare guidelines for Volunteer Hours? — Medicare Guidelines require a 5% match of volunteer hours to clinical patient care hours. Bristol exceeds this industry standard by more than double and matches clinical hours consistently between 10% – 20%. Benefits of Bristol’s robust volunteer program include our 11th Hour Program which provides bedside companionship and support around the clock during a patient’s final hours.
Deficiency-Free State Hospice & Home Health Survey
How is this unique and beneficial? — Medicare periodically reviews hospice & home health agencies to ensure compliance of Federal regulations and the quality of care provided by the organization. Surveyors arrive unannounced and conduct an immediate, thorough review of clinical documentation, employee files, administrative and clinical procedures, quality data collection, and contracts. In addition, the hospice patients and staff are interviewed. Bristol was found to be in full-compliance, meeting (and exceeding in many cases) all expected regulations for quality hospice and home health care.
Additional Therapeutic Services
Don’t all hospice agencies provide the same menu of therapeutic services? — No. Although complimentary therapies have always been a part of hospice care, these services are ancillary, so hospice agency’s allied therapy services vary. Bristol offers (in most areas) Massage, Aroma, and Music Therapy. Bristol is also piloting a holistic approach to explore pain management through the use of alternative therapies such as acupressure, acupuncture, Reike, and more. Your Bristol representative can identify which therapies are available in your area.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
Bristol Hospice provides services to meet the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of individuals at the end of life. We focus on an individualized plan of care which may include, as appropriate, the following services: nursing, physicians, hospice aides, spiritual support, therapy, dietary, counseling, volunteers, durable medical equipment, supplies, bereavement services and medications related to the terminal illness.
Bristol Home Health provides licensed healthcare professionals such as Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and Clinical Social Workers to help individuals attain their optimal level of well-being in a home care setting. Individualized care plans are created with the goal of allowing the patient to remain at home, avoiding hospitalization or admission to long-term care facilities. Home Health Services include, but are not limited to: wound care, fall prevention, IV therapy, injections, catheter cares, ostomy care, chronic disease management, and pain, disease, and medication management/education.
